GOAL:  For students to understand who wrote book, to whom, purpose in writing, theme of book, to remember framework of book of Revelation and relationship of first five chapters to framework. WILL YOU READ, HEAR AND HEED THE WORDS OF THE PROPHECY OF THIS BOOK

CHAP. 1 ANSWERS TO BASIC QUESTIONS:  WHO, WHAT, WHEN, WHERE, WHY AND HOW?  FROM WHOM?  WHO WROTE IT?  John  HOW DID HE RECEIVE IT?  God gave to Jesus.  Jesus sent and communicated it by his angel to bondservant John.

COULD YOU TELL WHY HE IS WRITING BASED ON THIS CHAPTER?  (vs. 1)  To show His bondservants the things which must shortly take place.

IS THERE ANY OTHER MENTION OF TIME IN THESE FIRST THREE VERSES?  (vs. 3)  The time is near.

NORMALLY, YOU WOULD THINK REVELATION WOULD BE THE HARDEST BOOK IN THE BIBLE.  SOMETIMES YOU HAVE TO WRESTLE AND WRESTLE TO SEE WHAT THE PURPOSE IS. IN THE FIRST CHAPTER, HE IS WRITING TO SHOW HIS BONDSERVANTS THE THINGS WHICH MUST SHORTLY TAKE PLACE.

WHAT IS HE TO WRITE?  (vs. 11) Write what you see and send it to the 7 churches, vs. 19 Write the things you have seen, the things which are, and the things which shall take place after these things. (VA - 1st column)

WHAT WAS JOHN’S RESPONSE?  Weeps greatly  UNTIL WHAT HAPPENS? vs. 5 The Lion from the Tribe of Judah has overcome so as to open book and its 7 seals.

WHO IS HE TALKING ABOUT?  Jesus  WHY WAS JESUS ABLE TO OPEN THE BOOK?  He has overcome so as to open the book and its seven seals.  WHERE IS THE LAMB? between throne and the elders. WHAT DID THE LAMB DO?  Came and took the book from the right hand of the One on the throne. 

WHO IS ONE ON THRONE?  God  WHAT WAS RESPONSE OF 4 LIVING CREATURES AND 24 ELDERS? Worthy art Thou to take book .....

HOW THEN WOULD YOU SUMMARIZE CHAP. 5?  Worthy is the Lamb to break the sealed book. (VA - UNDER COLUMN FOR CHAP. 5)

HOW DO THESE THINGS FIT INTO WHAT JOHN WAS TOLD TO WRITE:  Write what you see (Chap. 1), Things which are (Chap. 2, 3) and Things which shall take place after these things (Chap. 4, 5) (VA:  SEGMENT DIVISIONS)

PARALLELS BETWEEN CHAP. 1 AND 22?  (22:6 and 1:1)  things which must shortly take place (22:7 and 22:9 emphasis on those who heed words of prophecy which parallels with 1:3 blessed are those who hear and heed words), (22:13 and 1:8, 1:17) alpha and omega, first and last.  (22:10 don’t seal up words of prophecy and 1:3 blessed is one who hears word of prophecy) (1:3 words of prophecy of book and 4 times in 22:7, 22:10, 22:18 mention of prophecy and also 22:19)

REMIND NEED TO FOCUS ON MESSAGE OF WHAT IS THE MESSAGE FOR US TODAY?  Blessed is he who reads, hear and heed words of prophecy.  WILL YOU BE DILIGENT TO READ THIS MESSAGE AND HEAR AND HEED WORDS OF PROPHECY OF THIS BOOK.  REMEMBER GOD PROMISES A BLESSING.
