HOW WAS MESSAGE DELIVERED? (vs. 1) Jesus sent and communicated
the message , by His angel (VA)
WHAT DOES WORD COMMUNICATED MEAN? Signified, to indicate,
to give a sign (VA) Jesus sent and signified this message
by His angel to His bondservant (VA - How? Communicated means to
signify)
IN LIGHT OF DEFINITION, WHAT DOES THIS EXPLAIN ABOUT BOOK?
Message is in signs or is signified.
WHAT IS THE BOOK OF REVELATION FILLED WITH? signs and pictures
WHAT DID JOHN DO? (vs. 2) Bore witness to Word of God to
testimony of Jesus, even to all he saw (VA - How?)
WHAT IS WORD OF GOD? Revelation which God gave Jesus (vs. 1)
WHAT IS TESTIMONY OF JESUS? What Jesus communicated by His
angel to His bondservants.
THIS MESSAGE WAS SIGNIFIED AND THEN GOD BORE WITNESS OF WHAT HE
SAW.
WHERE WAS JOHN AND WHEN DID HE WRITE IT? (vs. 9) He was on
the Island of Patmos because of word of God and testimony of Jesus
(VA - When?) (VA - Why? For proclaiming word of God
and testimony of Jesus .... John’s exile) Testimony of Jesus
in vs. 2 refers to message in book of Revelation.
WHEN? On the Lord’s Day (vs. 10 - VA)
WHY STUDY THIS BOOK? WHAT IS PROMISE GIVEN? (vs. 3)
Blessing is promised. (VA - WHY Study? blessing is promised)
WHAT DOES "BLESSED" MEAN? Supremely blessed, well
off, fortunate (VA) Blessedness is not dependent upon circumstances.
It is the same word used in Sermon on Mount
WHY HEED MESSAGE ACCORDING TO THIS VERSE? Time is near (vs. 3).
WHAT INSTRUCTIONS WERE JOHN GIVEN CONCERNING THIS MESSAGE?
(vs. 11) Write in a book what you see (VA - How?) and (vs. 19) Write
the things you see, the things which are and things which shall
take place after these things.)
HOW DOES JOHN BEGIN MESSAGE (VS. 4)? Addresses 7 churches
in Asia. WHO IS JOHN REFERRING TO IN WHO IS, WHO WAS AND WHO
IS TO COME? God (VA - From whom) WHO DO YOU THINK THE SEVEN
SPIRITS OF GOD ARE IN VS. 4? Context seems to indicate Holy Spirit
(VA - From whom)
HOW IS JESUS DESCRIBED HERE? (VA -From whom) Loves us, released
us from our sins by His blood, made us to be a kingdom, priests
to His God and Father, He is coming with the clouds and every eye
will see Him, Alpha and Omega, who is and who was and who is to
come, the Almighty (Can’t determine whether it is referring
to God or Jesus based on vs. 4 (God the Father) and Rev. 22:13 definitely
Jesus.
HOW DID JOHN SAY THE MESSAGE CAME ABOUT? John was on the
Island of Patmos, in the spirit on the Lord’s Day. SPECIFICALLY
WHAT HAPPENED? He heard a voice like the sound of a trumpet.
WHAT DID VOICE SAY? Write what you see and send to 7 churches.
THE WORD SEE AND SAW ARE KEY THROUGHOUT BOOK.
WHAT DID JOHN DO? (vs. 12) He turned to see the voice speaking
to him. WHEN HE TURNED, WHAT DID HE SEE? Seven golden lampstands
and a vision of Jesus. HOW WAS JESUS DESCRIBED? WHAT
KIND OF WRITING ARE WE DEALING WITH? Figurative ..... WHAT IS A
METAPHOR? Implied comparison WHAT IS A SIMILE? Expressed comparison
of two different things .... words like and as used. WHAT
FIGURE OF SPEECH ARE WE PRIMARILY DEALING WITH HERE? Similes ...

WHAT DID JOHN SEE WHEN HE TURNED?(VA) List description of Jesus
on board point by point (Stick figures) 1) Seven golden
lampstands. WHAT WAS IN MIDDLE? 2) One like a son of
man, 3) clothed in robe reaching to feet, 4) golden girdle across
breast, 5) head and hair white like snow, 6) eyes flame of fire,
7) feet like burnished bronze, 8) voice like many waters, 9) voice
like sound of many waters (different from vs. 10), 10) in right
hand held seven stars. WHAT WAS JOHN’S RESPONSE? Fell
at Jesus’ feet as dead man. WHAT DID JESUS EXPLAIN ABOUT
HIMSELF? Do not be afraid .... I am first and last, I am the
living One, I was dead, I am alive forevermore. (VA)
HOW DOES JOHN’S VISION OF JESUS COMPARE WITH DANIEL’S
VISION IN DANIEL 7:9-14? in 9-14 part of record of vision
of 5th and final kingdom. DANIEL 7:9 Vesture like white snow,
hair like pure wool, then in vs. 13 One like a Son of Man was coming.
He was presented to Ancient of Days. His dominion everlasting
which will not pass away. Jesus was presented to God and given
everlasting kingdom. Description of God in vs. 9 which has
many similarities to John’s revelation of Jesus in Rev. 1
but not Jesus in Daniel 7.
AFTER THIS VISION IN REV. 1, WHAT DID JESUS TELL SPECIFICALLY JOHN
TO DO? Write the things you have seen, the things which are,
and the things which shall take place after these things.
IT WAS AFTER THE VISION THAT JOHN WAS TOLD TO WRITE THESE THINGS.
HERE WE HAVE AN OUTLINE OF THE BOOK OF REVELATION .... THINGS YOU
SEE (REV. 1), THINGS WHICH ARE (REV. 2&3) AND THINGS WHICH SHALL
TAKE PLACE AFTER THESE THINGS (REV. 4-22).
WHAT DID JESUS EXPLAIN ABOUT THE 7 STARS AND THE 7 GOLDEN LAMPSTANDS?
7 stars are angels of 7 churches and the 7 lampstands are 7 churches
(VA -What)
IT IS JESUS WHO IS SPEAKING. IT IS JESUS WHO HAS A VOICE
LIKE MANY WATERS. DOES JESUS CONTINUE TO SPEAK IN CHAP. 1-5?
Yes, it is Jesus who gives messages to church (3-4).
GET OUT OBSERVATION WORKSHEET ON CHAP. 4. IN CHAP. 2 JESUS
IS SPEAKING AND IN CHAP. 4 THE VOICE IS LIKE THE SOUND OF A TRUMPET,
THE FIRST VOICE. WHO IS THIS VOICE? The angel because
Jesus’ voice was like sound of many waters.
BASED ON WHAT YOU LEARNED THIS PAST WEEK, WHAT WOULD YOU SAY THIS
BOOK IS ALL ABOUT? The unveiling of Jesus in Chap. 1 (what John
saw), the messages to the churches in Chap. 2-3 (things which are),
and the unveiling of things which must take place after these things
(Chap. 4-) judgments to come.
WHY SHOULD ANYONE STUDY THIS BOOK? Blessings promised
