Four Reasons to Trust in God | He Knows What He Is Doing
Proverbs 3:5 – 6
My oldest daughter is at the stage where she loves to help me with projects. She practically jumps at any opportunity to be my assistant. The problem is that my daughter is also at the stage where she thinks she knows everything. Recently, we were putting together a bed frame and the bed frame used bolts to hold it together. My daughter knew enough to know about “righty tighty, lefty loosey,” so she started to tighten the bolts while I held things together. The first two went just fine because there was a notch that held the bolt in place so she could tighten the nut just fine. When she got to the 3rd bolt, the notch on the bed frame was stripped, and so the nut would only go on so far before the bolt just kept spinning. This prompted a back-and-forth where I would ask if she needed help and she would respond with “No.” This happened many times before I began to lose my patience and said, “Hunny, let Daddy help you.” She still insisted she had it under control. The conversation ended with me saying the words, “Hunny! Trust me — I know what I’m doing!”
5 Trust in the Lord with all your heart,
and do not lean on your own understanding.
6 In all your ways acknowledge him,
and he will make straight your paths (Proverbs 3:5 – 6).
Each one of us thinks we know what’s best for our life, and sometimes even the lives of people around us. But we forget that our knowledge is limited. Like my daughter, we know enough to handle the job on our own and don’t even realize that there is so much about life that we do not yet know. Not to mention the things about life that we will never know. The good news for us is that God is omniscient — He knows all things. We do not need to know it all; instead, we need to seek guidance from the One Who does. That’s not the easiest thing to do — It requires that we swallow our pride and admit that we may not have all the answers. But what we will find when we take things to God is that we will spend less time spinning our wheels and going nowhere because we will not be relying on our limited knowledge. Instead, God in His infinite wisdom and knowledge will be guiding us to what’s best for us in accordance with His will.
