Have you ever had a moment where you looked at another person and said “I don’t know where I’d be without you?” Whose that person that holds everything together in your family. For me that has been my mother and my wife. Without my mother I’m pretty sure I wouldn’t have made it to adulthood. A person can only live so long on swiss cake rolls and soda… Not only was she my nutritionist, she was also a cook, and schedule keeper, a taxi service and so much more for our family. She filled out and filed my paperwork, and she did my laundry and she took care of so many other things that as a kid I did not yet have the ability or knowledge to do. My mother was a big part of keeping me alive until I was old enough to take care of myself. Now my wife is the person I look at and say I would be a mess without you, but for completely different reasons. I can cook, I can do laundry, I have the ability to do all the things I couldn’t do as a boy. My wife is my confidant, my support system, my encourager. We are teammates and she is the person I turn to when I feel stuck or need support. While I technically could stay alive without my wife… it’s not a life worth living without her in it. There have definitely been times in my adult life where the circumstances around me seemed too great and felt I did not have the strength of power to continue on. However, my wife’s support and encouragement and wisdom sustained me when I was ready to give up. I would not be in ministry today if not for my wife.
While there are people that help sustain us when we are weak. There is someone even greater who is responsible for much more. Colossians 1:16
16 For by him all things were created, in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or rulers or authorities—all things were created through him and for him.
Bob Utley Says that “Jesus was God’s agent of creation”. It was through Christ that all things were created not only did he create but he is the sustainer of that creation. The words “All thing” means “remains created.” A.T Robertson says ““The permanence of the universe rests, then, on Christ far more than on gravity. It is a Christ-centric universe.” This is an incredible display of unlimited power to not only create but to ensure creation continues on.
There are many times when we feel weak and like we do not have it within us to continue on. As we look towards the fall there are those of you that are wondering how you will survive if the fall of 2020 looks like the spring of 2020. Here’s the thing… We don’t need rely on our own strength in those times because our heavenly father has unlimited power. He has the power to sustain us through all situations. The next time you are facing a situation where you feel like you cannot carry on. Remember to draw near to the creator and sustainer of life and allow him to provide us with what we need to endure.
