Romans Day 4

Romans Day 4

Romans, Day 4
God Always Keeps His Promises (Romans 4:21)

No unbelief made Abraham waver concerning the promise of God, but he grew strong in his faith as he gave glory to God, fully convinced that God was able to do what he had promised (Romans 4:20-21).

Did you wake up today “fully convinced that God was able to do what He had promised” in your life? What a question to think about as we start our day! This statement by Paul is written in the paragraph where he reminisces about Abraham’s faithfulness to God’s call on his life when he was “as good as dead” (4:19). That has to be one of my favorite lines in the Bible! Abraham and Sarah’s inadequacies were proof that God’s will is not limited by the inconceivable, and He uses these perceived obstacles to bring glory to Himself. In the world’s eyes, Abraham was too old and Sarah was cursed with barrenness. However, because of the unwavering belief in God’s promise, they grew stronger in their faith while giving all the glory to God. Why? Because they were “fully convinced that God was able to do what He had promised.”

My question for us today is, “Are we fully convinced that God is able to do what He has promised in our lives?” I want us to take a few moments and evaluate our confidence as believers in His promises in these four areas:

Are you convinced that God . . .

. . . has a purpose for you? ____ Yes ____ No (Jeremiah 29:13; Psalm 16:11)

. . . will provide for you? ____ Yes ____ No (Matt. 6:25 – 33; Phil. 4:19)

. . . is looking forward to eternity with you? ____ Yes ____ No (Revelation 21:1 – 4)

. . . is present and speaking through His Word? ____ Yes ____ No                                  (Isaiah 41:10; 2 Tim. 3:16-17)

As you look at your answers to the questions above, are you encouraged? Did you read the verses attached to the promises and become even more convinced that God is a promise keeper?

One Saturday night in Chattanooga, Tennessee, God revealed to me a purpose for my life. He called me to use my life in ministry during a church service. I had no idea in what capacity I was going to serve Him. I just knew I needed to prepare for what He was calling me to do. Just a few short months later, I was driving to Texas with my wife, to live in a city I had never been to, to attend a school I had never visited, and take part in a journey I would never forget. That decision to follow God’s call on my life has led to 25 years of ministry. During that season in Dallas, God provided beyond anything we could have imagined. He even gave us margin in our marriage that allowed us to mature and build a foundation that has lasted. We also learned to lean on God and spent time in His Word seeking the discernment of the Spirit that has guided us through every season of life.

I want to challenge you to spend time today reflecting on the promises God has kept in your story, from the day He brought you to Himself and the way He is moving in your life today. Take time to worship and praise the God Who keeps His promises. Then, share that story with someone so we can encourage one another!

Now to him who is able to do far more abundantly than all that we ask or think, according to the power at work within us, to him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, forever and ever. Amen (Ephesians 3:20 – 21).
