Esther Day 6

Esther Day 6

Esther, Day 6
Jewish Victory
Today’s Scripture Passage: Esther Chapters 8 – 9:17

I like sports. I always have. Ever since I can remember, I played sports. It didn’t matter if it was basketball, baseball, football, or hockey. Having four brothers and neighborhood friends, there was always someone around to play with. As I got older, golf came into the picture. Now, let me be clear. Just because I played a lot does not mean I was good. It is especially clear when it comes to golf. That is the one sport I continue to play. And when I do, occasionally I hit a good shot. And I would love to say that it comes from a lot of practice. But it doesn’t. It mostly is just a lucky shot. So, when I start a round of golf, if I want to shoot a good round, I would be desperate. I am waiting for the day when I will prevail, but it hasn’t happened yet.

Today in Esther, we read about how the Jewish people were in trouble and things looked desperate. This is not the first time for God’s chosen people, and it certainly wouldn’t be the last. God came through again when they looked to Him. Read about it in our Scripture passage for today. They were able to defend themselves against some who wanted to wipe them off the map. Time and time again, God was true to His Word.

So, what can we learn from this? We too are God’s chosen ones. When things get desperate, where and to whom are we to turn? Why not turn to the One Who has proven Himself over and over, not only in our lifetime, but over the course of the whole human history? And what does desperate look like? No, I am not going to ask God for my golf game to get better. And I will not answer what desperate looks like to you. That is different for each of us. But the One to Whom we turn to is the same for everyone. Hopefully, you are not desperate today. But as we all know, there will be a time when we are. Turn to Him each and every day so that when we are in trouble, it will be much more natural for us to do so. Thank you God for being there for us every day!
