God is Omnipotent Day 1

God is Omnipotent Day 1

DEVOTIONS HOME

“The heavens declare the glory of God, and the sky above proclaims his handiwork”.

Omnipotence, not a word you hear of, or use in every-day speech. It’s one of those “church” words, like sanctification, glorification, or regeneration. Again, not used much in normal conversation. It’s not even a word found in the Bible; however, it definitely is referred to, especially about God.

If you have read enough of the Bible you can clearly see that God is indeed omnipotent; all powerful. It means that God has unlimited authority and infinite power.

Romans 1:20, Paul, shares with us, that God’s invisible attributes, namely, his eternal power and divine nature demonstrate, his omnipotence. From creation these qualities of God can be seen in the things he made. And, Paul states, “So they (we) are without excuse.”

John Calvin wrote, “By saying that God has made it manifest, he means, that man was created to be a spectator of this formed world, and that eyes were given him, that he might, by looking on so beautiful a picture, be led up to the Author himself.”

What does, “So they are without excuse”, mean? For me, when I gaze up into the sky, or view a sunset, a rainbow, the Grand Canyon, it had to come from somewhere. They just didn’t pop up out of nowhere. Therefore, I have no excuse if I don’t believe God created them. He is omnipotent! All things were made because He spoke them into existence. How else did matter come into being? This is why the atheists and skeptics are “without excuse”. “Because God has made certain facts about himself known instinctively, people will someday have to give an account before God of why they chose to ignore his existence and his character.” Life Application NT Commentary.

From Acts 14:17, Paul reminds the Gentiles, who had no knowledge of the Jewish Scriptures, that their regular harvests, the food they eat every day, and the gladness they experience in the ordinary activities of life are all a witness from God of his existence, wisdom, and goodness.”
“ESV Study Bible” notes.

What do you see when you see a sunset, the power of a storm, or a beautiful garden? Creation so speaks of a creator, and we, (believers) worship the omnipotent God that made it all happen, by merely speaking it into existence. Does knowing this, solidify your faith, or are we like the disciples, who at times, doubted? Personally, I don’t want to be “without excuse”! Join me in celebrating and worshiping our mighty, omnipotent God!

To God be the glory, great things he has done!
