More Knowledge Than Google
“He determines the number of the stars; he gives to all of them their names.”
– Psalm 147:4
“And no creature is hidden from his sight, but all are naked and exposed to the eyes of him to whom we must give account.”
– Hebrews 4:13
If you want to learn more about a topic, where do you turn? You might know an expert in a field, and if you do, you can consult them, but what if you don’t? Most people these days just Google what they want to learn more about. It’s great! It’s so fast and easy that you can find the answer to virtually any question you can come up with. I know that whenever I have a question about how to do or make something, I just ask Google and in just a few seconds, I have several articles, pictures, and videos right at my fingertips that I can look at. Sometimes, I can be having a conversation with someone and the next time I’m on my computer or phone, an ad pops up pertaining to what I was talking about. Wait, it gets worse! There have even been times when I have been thinking about something without saying a word and before I know it, there it is, on the screen in front of me. Does Google know everything? I sure hope not, but do you know who does? That’s right. God.
Psalm 147:4 states that not only does God determine the number of stars, He also names each and every one of them. According to Google, there are about 1 billion trillion stars in the observable universe. That’s a “1” with 24 zeroes after it! My wife and I struggled naming 2 children much less than 1 billion trillion stars, but God knows them all by name, and that does not even include the stars that we cannot observe!
Hebrews 4:13 states that nobody is hidden from God’s sight. He sees all and everyone will have to give an account of how they lived their life on earth before Him one day. How many people are living in this world today? Again, Google gives us an estimated answer of 7.8 billion people who are currently living on this planet. 7.8 billion people and out of all of those, no one can hide from God. All people are accountable to Him.
With both of these searches, Google could only give an estimate because Google does not know everything. On the other hand, according to these verses, God knows everything and everybody. God knows more than Google. While that fact may be obvious to all of us, where do we go first when we have a question? Do we ask Google, a search engine which has the culmination of human knowledge, or do we ask God who has infinitely more knowledge than that? I think most of us are tempted to “Google first and ask God later” when it comes to questions that we want answered. Especially when we want an answer now, and we don’t want to wait to hear back from God.
In this day and age, with so much information available at our fingertips, it’s easy to search elsewhere for answers. But as Christians, we have access to Someone with an infinite amount of wisdom and discernment, so why wouldn’t we go to Him? He loves us and knows us better than anyone else could. Be comforted that the Creator of the universe knows you by name and that He loves you more than the rest of His creation.
