Scripture Reading: Exodus 16

I don’t know about you, but there are certain times of the year that I look forward to. And what it all seems to center around is the gathering of people. One such time used to be Christmas Day where my siblings would all gather with their families. Coming from a large family, that gathering would be around 35-40 people. Those were special times but looking back on it, that was a lot of planning and work for one meal and half a day spent together.

In the scripture reading for today we read about how God provided for His people. This was a logistical nightmare. Look at the numbers. There were a little over 600,000 men. If we add in the women and children, a conservative estimate would be 2 million. Look at the place. They were in the middle of a desert. How much food would they need? It would take 3 freight trains each a mile long loaded with food every day. That is a lot of food. But nothing is impossible with God as your leader. Every morning (except for the sabbath) He provided “bread” for the next 40 years. They called it manna which means “What is it?” They didn’t know what it was, but it was the perfect food for their body. So, what may seem impossible for us, it was nothing for our God. Moses put his trust in God and God handled things for the next 40 years. We are no less important than the Israelites were. Jesus tells us in Matthew 10: 29-31 that even when a sparrow falls to the ground, He know about it. And we are of far greater worth than a sparrow.

One last thought is that God gave the manna to the Israelite people, but each morning they had to “harvest” their food for the day. God will take care of us, but He wants us to invest some of our energy so that we could better enjoy the fruits of our labor. Let us walk in faith – together!

If you think God can’t handle your problems . . .
THINK AGAIN!
