Any Day Now

They had so many dreams and plansfor what year 2020 was going to be. All of that came to a halt earlier this year and I haven’t heard of any ministry recently calling for us to have 20/20 vision. Have you? Life is so precious and if we’re not careful, we can get stuck in a routine and forget that none of us are guaranteed tomorrow. As believers, we need to be dedicated on a daily basis to spread the gospel because we never know if we will have an opportunity tomorrow. We do not know when the day of the Lord will arrive.
In these verses, Zephaniah describes the day of the Lord as a day of wrath, distress, anguish, ruin, devastation, darkness, gloom, clouds, thick darkness, trumpet blast, and battle cry. It is going to be so bad that people will walk as if they were blind and their lives will be destroyed. No amount of money will be able to save these people who have sinned against the Lord. There’s no getting around it. The day of the Lord is going to be horrible for all who endure it. While we don’t know when the day of the Lord will begin, we do know that it will begin at the rapture (2 Thes. 2). So, if Christians won’t be around for the day of the Lord, should we even bother with it? Absolutely! Knowing that this day is coming and could be soon, should encourage us to tell our friends and family that Jesus is real, that He cares for them, and that He died and rose again to pay the penalty for their sin.
My stepfather passed away from the COVID-19 in May. The hardest thing that my family has struggled with most, including my children, is we do not know for sure where he is spending eternity. He heard the gospel and was told the truth, but we do not know if he made that personal decision to put his faith and trust in Jesus Christ.
If you knew a bridge was out and you saw people driving towards it, what would you do? Would you just watch them and tell yourself “I’m so glad that’s not me!” or would you block the road with whatever you could find and do your best to keep everyone from falling to their death? I’m afraid that while most of us would do what we could to keep people from driving off the road, very few of us actually make it a point to be a witness for Christ with the same urgency. You might tell yourself, “I don’t know how to lead someone to Christ.” I might ask you, “Have you ever tried?” Sometimes we like to make things harder than they actually are. Satan fills our minds with doubt and insecurities so we think that we’ll mess up and unintentionally lead them astray. If you are a Christian, than you already have what it takes to share the gospel with everyone around you.
My wife and I were trained specifically to lead children to the Lord, but these truths are universal no matter how old your audience is. In order to become a Christian, one needs to know the following: God is the Creator, a God of love, and He is holy (John 3:16); we are sinners deserving death (Romans 3:23); and Jesus died and rose again to pay the penalty for our sins (1 Corinthians 15:3-5). Then, they need to make a personal decision to follow Jesus (John 1:12) and grow in their walk with the Lord (2 Peter 3:18).
The day of the Lord is coming and there is no stopping it. What are you going to do to help ensure those who you know and love will not have to endure this terrible time?
