Got Peace? (Proverbs 16:3)
[perfectpullquote align=”full” bordertop=”false” cite=”” link=”” color=”” class=”” size=””]Commit your work to the Lord, and your plans will be established.Proverbs 16:3[/perfectpullquote] One of the big questions for people especially during this season is how do I find peace. What will calm that which causes uncertainty and worry and fear within me. How can I be free of these things? There is only one way. Solomon told us in Ecclesiastes 2:11, that the peace we seek is not found in anything we accomplish on this earth, or in gratifying the desires of our flesh, because all that is as “chasing after the wind.” The things of this world cannot satisfy our desires. The only way to satisfy our desires is to shift our desires from what we want and onto what God wants.
Colossians 3:2-3 says, “Set your minds on things that are above, not on things that are on earth. For you have died, and your life is hidden with Christ in God. The reason this is the only way to satisfy whatever longing we have within is because we are shifting our desires off of what is temporary to that which will never fade away. The things of this world will all pass away. They are temporary, they only last for a little while. If they do last for a long period of time our desires change making their provision insufficient.
Solomon writes in Proverbs 16:3, “Commit your work to the Lord, and your plans will be established.” This verse could almost be translated “Do whatever you do for God and your plans (or your thoughts) will be stable).” There is an instability to the things of this
world providing solutions that last but for a moment and then return. When we commit what we do to God, that is when we find
a sense of stability. By making God the focus and goal of whatever we do, our thoughts and desires then shift to things that honor Him. Plans will be established because our plans have now aligned with God’s, and He will always provide for His will.
The solution to our search for peace or any desire within us should not be, “How do I satisfy this desire?” Instead the questions should change to: “Am I working for the Lord?” and, “Am I seeking His will and bringing my best in all that I do to bring Him honor and Glory?” When we make that shift, we find those desires we were seeking to satisfy will have been silenced. Not by anything we did, but because our focus is no longer on ourselves but on God.
