I Know the Way (Proverbs 16:25)
[perfectpullquote align=”full” bordertop=”false” cite=”” link=”” color=”” class=”” size=””]There is a way that seems right to a man, but its end is the way to death. Proverbs 16:25[/perfectpullquote]When I read this verse, I am reminded of a moment with my oldest son. We were on our way to get him back to school and I had put the address of the campus into google maps. The route was given to us … the fastest route! Robbie was driving and, with the extra time, I noticed that the route that google maps had chosen was not the correct route. I told Robbie to ignore the directions and we would go the normal way … the fastest way! Robbie tried to explain to me that there must be something that made the route change but I insisted that we go the “correct way”. Five minutes later, we were sitting in the middle of the interstate and I was getting “the look”. The look that says, “Dad, I love you but this is wasting my time! Why didn’t we follow the directions that were given to us?”
Why is it so hard for us to follow directions? In John 14:6, John recorded a conversation Jesus was having with his disciples where he said, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.” In these few words, Jesus notified his disciples that there is only one way to relationship with the Father.
I have the privilege of speaking and having relationships with people who do not understand this or embrace this truth. There is completeness in Jesus’ words that provide a path to move forward, a foundation to stand firm on, and a hope in Christ that leads to eternity with Him. I enjoy conversations with my friends who are seeking to know God or are just curious about my relationship with Him. Most of them are on a path that seems right to them. I love planting spiritual seeds in their lives that I pray germinate into an understanding of how a relationship with Jesus can change them.
One day I was asked by a friend, “Why are you so determined to share Christ with those around you?” The above verse holds the answer for me. The Bible is clear about the destiny of those who do not embrace Jesus as their personal Savior. What motivates me is that the risk of sharing my faith with someone is worth the possible rejection. I took the risk with a friend a little over a year ago. It was during a challenging season for me personally but I knew God had called me to invest relational time in my new friend. When he gave his life to Christ, it was a transformative day for me but his destiny changed in a moment.
I watched the love of God and godly people overwhelm this awesome man and his life was transformed. I still love having conversations about faith with him as we continue to do life together. I am always encouraged when we connect. He is a good man, but now he is a man of God. There is a difference!
If you want to read about some life changing moments in the ministry of Jesus, go to Matthew 9 and read how Jesus restored people. Matthew finishes out the chapter by referring to the spiritual harvest. Workers for the harvest are needed! Consider this: He may be calling you to take that risk!
How many people are living in a way that seems right to them but do not know the Lord? Is there someone in your life that needs to hear the gospel? This could be a great time to commit yourself to take a risk and share the gospel. You could be part of a destiny changing moment!
